We finally had the opportunity to obtain a Dartslive 100-S Home electronic darts board for review. This home board was selling like hot cakes and the stock could not be kept very long before running out. So when the next shipment arrived, I pinched a set and finally got down to evaluate it in detail.
The Dartslive 100S board is designed to give darters a quality home board version that they can practice on at home without too much of a difference compared to the real full-size Dartslive 2 board that you may find at the nearest bar. As such, the physical dimension size of the board, the size of the holes, the feel of the plastic-rubberized segments and the sound effects are identical to the real Dartslive 2 Board. The differences are : no online functionality, fewer games, no handicaps, no full graphics video screen or Member Card slot function. Other than that, you get pretty much the same thing here although the segments seem to travel deeper into the board when struck as compared to the full-size Dartslive 2 board.
Now, I have seen some "pirated" versions of this board out there. At first glance, it looks almost the same as the 100S here but without the brand logo at the top 2 corners of the board and the box and it is sold under a different brand name. As for the product warranty, quality and software aspect, your mileage may vary and the build may not last either. So, be sure to buy from reputable sources and ensure the logos are all in the right places.

Box packaging - front view |
The Box itself is made of hard cardboard with the picture of the dart board on the front. On the back, are some of the features and functionality of the board, along with endorsement from THE WORLD players and the proclamation "Greatest Dartboard Available Now!". There is a plastic strap at the top that serves as a holder during transportation.
Open up the box and you have the dartboard itself in a plastic wrap, with stiff styrofoam protecting the bottom and top of the board. There were none on either sides of it so you may want to handle the sides and front with care during transportation. There are two small packs of accessories, one is the small AC/DC power adaptor and the other holds a pack of screws and 2 complete sets of darts.

|
2 sets of Speakers holes (left speaker shown) gives a better stereo sound effect |
|
Back view with four holes for hanging. You need all four for a stable support so that the board doesn't shift easily when you hit the board or when you pull your darts out. |

|
|
Top left hand corner. |
The numbers are chrome plated and adds a nice feel to it. The size of the target segments and holes are the same as the real full-size board so you can use the same type of tips as the regular ones.
|
Top right hand corner |
The build of the board itself is quite solid. It is not too heavy but neither is it light and flimsy. The weight is important so that it doesn't vibrate too much when hit. It can absorb the force of the hit so that it doesn't strike too loudly. This last point is important especially in a small apartment. You don't want to sound like you are hammering nails every time you practise darts!
|
Bottom left hand corner : the volume control in 5 different settings. |
The sound effects of the board mimics the real Dartslive 2 board so you get the same effects as you would playing on a regular full-size Dartslive 2 board.
|
Bottom left hand corner houses the power supply connection and battery ports |
There are two ways to power up this board. You can use the provided AC/DC adaptor with a wire running to it or use 4 AA size batteries to hang the board in a place where power supply is not available or is troublesome to setup.
|
The LCD screen is rather orangey in color and a tad too bright. There is no adjustment for the brightness. Here we are in the middle of a cricket game.

Contents of the Accessories pack |
Included with the box are 2 sets of regular soft-tip darts. Mind you, these are not house-darts but regular full-size 12g tungsten darts. Also included are 4 screw mounts and 10 pieces of black soft tips.
|
Darts barrel included with the 100S board |
|
The dart itself weighs a light 12.0 grams |
|
Center of gravity of the dart is just 60% towards the back of the dart barrel |
|
Leaflet for the dimensions in setting up the dart board. Make a copy of this leaflet, stick it to the wall and drill the holes at the indicated places A, B, C, D. |
|
A user guide on using the board is provided. There are 3 languages - Chinese, English and Japanese |
Summary : The product is designed in Japan and made in China but the build quality feels solid and confident. The sides doesn't wobble and the target segments are "rubbery" which help ensure a soft landing for your darts and spare other people in your house from the noise common with other home soft tip boards. Short of the real thing, this is as best as it can get for a home board version of the Dartslive 2. It sure feels like it, sounds like it and plays like the real thing. Now, if only we can hook up a 20" LCD to it, then we can have full graphics video screen....!
Would you consider this to be the best available wall mounted board on the market right now? Comparing with viper or any other brand you recomend? Or should I save up and buy a full machine from my local vendor? Just curious on your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteThanks
I have not seen the Viper board before. But yes, I would think this is the best soft-tip wall-mounted home board on the market right now. Get this home board instead of the full machine since you can already save so much more by buying this home board version.

ReplyDeleteMy board didn't come with any instruction manual. Do you know what size thread the darts take? Thanks! =)
ReplyDeleteNot sure what you are refering to, the darts? They are standard soft-tip darts size..
DeleteThe darts that came with the board. I bought some 2BA replacement tips, but they were too small =(
Delete2BA which refers to the thread size is correct for the darts. However some tips have very slim points and does not "stick" well on the board. Is that your problem? Suggest you to get L-Style Lippoint tips or approach the nearest darts shop and bring along the old tips to get the closest match.
