The Super League Season 7 Knock Out Tournament was organised specially for the Super League Season 7 players at the Furama City Centre Hotel on July 5-6. The purpose of the tournament was to provide more big-time, local competitive activities for Super League players and at the same time, maximise the use of a hall that was booked for the Super Leage Fiesta party. Unfortunately, the turnout was not fantastic and only hit slightly more than half the expected numbers. Blame it on the World Cup that was going on. However, the show must go on and the organisers valiantly committed to pay out the same prizes as promised despite the low turnout (hurrah!).
The first event for the SKO Tournament on Saturday was the Doubles event, broken into 3 flights. The event took up the whole of Saturday afternoon. For those players who failed to make it into the second round of the KnockOut Tournament, they had the opportunity to participate in other activities. There was the Sweet 16 event, the Extreme Bull challenge and the "Play with the Pros" games on the stage.
Yes, two special Dartslive Official Players were invited to grace the tournament with their very own side event. Paul Lim, Dartslive Pro Player and a regular at Singapore's tournaments flew in from Hong Kong to spar with players over some fun games. Cathy Leung, Dartslive's prettiest Official Player and a starlet from Hong Kong was a first-timer at Singapore's tournament/Fiesta and she lent some star qualities to the event. She obviously had a big impact on the local players as many of them clamoured to have the opportunity to play with her or get her autographs or take some selfie pictures with her. Even Paul Lim quipped later that he would be Cathy's manager should she be invited back for future events!

In the B Flight, the invited Malaysian Super League players of Anson Oh and Ignatius "Iggy" Yee took the title by beating the local pair from Team HKK of Eric Yeo and Chiam Yen Sing. C Flight champion went to the veteran finalists pair from Avengers - Edmund Tan and Vincent Lee, who beat the team from Le Circuit, Casper and Jeremy.
Once the Doubles event concluded, the next event for the day was the Super League 64, which was a knockout event for 64 doubles teams who were selected over the past few weeks at various locations around Singapore before the tournament. The finalists were pitted together in a grand final event at the tournament hall. The ultimate champion, Seth Soh/Zhi Ying managed to hold off the challenge from Harith Lim/Debra Chan along the way before defeating Gary Tay/Jalen Ng in the finals to win the crown. They won a fully sponsored trip to MSDO 2014 tournament in KL at the end of the year.
On Day Two, the event of the day was Blind Doubles where a high rated player will be matched with a low rated player so that the teams are all quite similar in ability. However, the start was delayed by the no-show of quite a number of players, with various lame (!) excuses ranging from overslept, too tired, hangover, forgot, etc etc. Never mind about them, the lesser the opponents, the higher the chances of winning!
Filipino players partnering local girls seemed to be the top favourites for this event as both the top teams each had a premier division player partnering lady players. Teejay Laureano and Candy Cai played against Mar Kenneth and Debra Chan in the finals. The trump card would seem to be the lady partners as both guys held off each other ! In the end, Teejay/Candy defeated Kenneth/Debra 2-1 in a close fight over 3 games.

As the tournament came to its end, the hall was closed for the preparation of the Fiesta and everyone had a parting gift to make way for the transformation of the tournament hall into a party hall ! In the end, I would think almost everyone who came enjoyed themselves. Those who did not win, get to go on stage to play with some of the star players and get some pictures taken. Although no one won the Extreme Bull challenge, despite a raise in the reward to S$1000, it was interesting to see many people queueing up for the opportunity to take the challenge! Anyway, its no try, no win.
